Casey Affleck is receiving a lot of flak instead of applause by fans for his Academy Award win. Twitter is mighty upset with the prestigious awards committee for awarding the actor, who has been alleged for sexually harassing women, in the past. As soon as the Oscars 2017 committee unveiled the list of nominations, a few celebs and social media were upset for giving Casey the honour for his performance in Manchester by the Sea. But what has pushed them off the hedge is that the actor even won the award. He was nominated in the Best Actor category and while fans didn’t expect it, Casey took home the trophy as well. This has resulted in an outrage as people are highly miffed with the committee for awarding it to a person who has previously been charged with molestation case.

For those unaware, Affleck was accused of sexually harassing two women on the sets of I’m Still Here, which starred Joaquin Phoenix. While one was his producer of the film, the other was his director of photography. Both of them accused Casey of harassment with means of inappropriate sexual advances and comments. While a case was lodged and he did deny and plead innocence, eventually, the whole scene was settled outside of court. Because of this incident, people are calling out to the Academy awards and asking them why they have honoured a criminal. Check out the tweets.

Right after the case was closed, Affleck was quoted saying, “It was settled to the satisfaction of all. I was hurt and upset — I am sure all were — but I am over it,” he told NYT. “It was an unfortunate situation — mostly for the innocent bystanders of the families of those involved.” You can see how people have reacted to his win.
