Sonu Nigam’s statement about how the morning Azaan causes inconvenience to people sleeping in the morning hours, has created a storm on social media and otherwise. The opinions are divided with many siding with the hit singer while others have felt he was insensitive towards the Muslim community. The singer has said that it was not a communal statement at all, and only spoke about public inconvenience caused due to the use of loudspeakers in public spaces. Quite a few celebrities have supported Sonu Nigam including Richa Chadda and Vivek Agnihotri. In fact, Vivek Agnihotri has also spoken about how Bollywood, which comes out in support of celebs targeted in such controversies is keeping mum as Sonu does not belong to any camp or clique in the industry. However, he has found support from comedian Sunil Grover who has said that whatever Sonu said was not to be interpreted in a communal manner. He said he knows the singer personally and he is not the sort who believes in communalism from any angle.
