Shah Rukh Khan‘s Raees released on Wednesday to cash in on the Republic Day weekend and it did more than just that. While the trade was expecting the film to earn somewhere over Rs. 20 crore on R-Day as it is a holiday, it went ahead and grabbed Rs. 26. 30 crore which is simply massive. In fact, it is the highest that any film has earned on this day and by doing so, Shah Rukh Khan has gone past Salman Khan. Yes, Jai Ho had earned Rs. 26.25 crore on this day back in 2014, which was till now the highest. But Raees went past it easily. Taran Adarsh, Trade Analyst, shared the figures saying, “#Raees is PHENOMENAL on Day 2. All set to pack a FAB total in its 5-day weekend. Wed 20.42 cr, Thu 26.30 cr. Total: ₹ 46.72 cr. India biz.” It was expected to earn a lot on this day as it is a holiday but nobody saw this coming. With Rs. 26.30 cr, Raees is on a phenomenal run at the box office and will continue to pack a solid punch. Mind you, it is witnessing strong opposition from Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil which also opened on the same day. R-Day was generous for the film too as it earned a good over Rs. 18 crore at the box office.
Both the films will be earning more and more in the coming days, as it is a five day weekend. Sultan amassed huge wealth when it released with that many days in its first weekend. If both Raees and Kaabil continue the way they are going, they will put up great numbers. This could become one clash where both the parties will be left cash-rich but there will be one clear winner, of course. And if we go by currents trends, everything is going in favour of Raees.
