Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan‘s Raees clashed with Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam‘s Kaabil at the box office yesterday. While both the films were neck and neck going into the release weekend, looks like Shah Rukh’s film has taken a huge lead in the initial stages. While Raees earned a massive Rs 20.42 crore on day one, Kaabil could only manage a decent collection of Rs 10.43 crore. This means Shah Rukh has beaten Hrithik by a huge margin on day 1. However, let me inform you that this is just the initial stage of the clash and anything can happen in the coming few days.

People were eager to see both the films and hence we saw a large number of people flocking to the theatres on release day. This set the cash registers ringing and helped both the films earn huge amounts of money. But it was Raees which started off better with an occupancy of about 70 per cent throughout the day across India. Kaabil, on the other hand, registered an average occupancy of 45-50 per cent. Shah Rukh also got a slight advantage in terms of screen count (Raees got 2700 screens, while Kaabil got 2200 screens).  ALSO READ – Raees box office collection day 1: Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan’s film earns a massive Rs 20.42 crore

With lesser number of screens and lower occupancy, Kaabil could not match up to Raees. But Hrithik and the makers have nothing to worry as this is just initial phase. The film with the better content and stronger word of mouth publicity will get a better push and will have a bigger lifetime collection. So we will have to wait and watch as to who will win in this mega clash. ALSO READ – Kaabil box office collection day 1: Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam’s film earns Rs 10.43 crore

In the meanwhile, we expect both Raees and Kaabil to see a huge growth in terms of occupancies and collections as today is a holiday – Republic Day (January 26). Both the films can easily earn anywhere between 15-25 crore on day 2. And while Raees has taken the initial lead, we expect Kaabil to fight back and close down the gap soon.
