Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees has earned a whopping Rs 20.42 crore on it’s opening day. Being a mid week release, the film surely has raked in a very good number. The film released along with Hrithik Roshan‘s Kaabil and has surpassed the film by a huge margin. However, having done so, the film has also beat Akshay Kumar’s Airlift and Salman Khan’s Jai Ho that released on a Republic Day weekend in the past. With this, Raees has become the highest opener for a Republic Day weekend.
As we stated earlier, the SRK movie raked in Rs 20.42 crore while Airlift’s first day collection was reported as Rs 12.35 crore and Jai Ho’s was Rs 17.75 crore. You can see that Raees has easily surpassed the numbers created by Akshay and Salman. Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil, on the other hand, has been unable to beat either of the records created by Salman and Akshay. The film has raked in Rs 10.43 crore on it’s opening day which falls in the fourth position while Shah Rukh takes the first position to be the highest Republic Day weekend opener. Both Raees and Kaabil opened in mid week, being one of 2017’s biggest clashes. Khan’s film has not only broken records of actors made in the past but has easily exceeded the collections made by Shraddha Kapoor-Aditya Roy Kapur’s OK Jaanu and Deepika Padukone’s xXx: return of Xander Cage, that released earlier this month. Our trade expert had also speculated that with the kind of occupancy Raees is seeing on it’s first day, the film is bound to cross Rs 20 crore. However, the critic reviews of Hrithik’s Kaabil are very promising while Raees has received average ratings. Plus, there are a lot of factors that might change the game for there are protests and petitions of ban made by various political parties. Perhaps, this weekend will tell us the fate of both the films. For now Raees is leading. We must add though that Shah Rukh’s film may have beat Airlift and Jai Ho but couldn’t match up with Aamir Khan’s Dangal, that stands at Rs 29.78 crore on it’s opening day.
There are a lot of records that Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees will have to break but for now, it’s nice to see that the film has emerged as the highest opener for Republic Day weekend.
