After Deepika Padukone, co-stars Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor have also reacted to the Sanjay Leela Bhansali row. As we had reported earlier, the filmmaker’s Padmavati sets in Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur, was vandalised by the Rajput Karni Sena, who assaulted the director as well. Earlier, the lead actress of the film, DP had expressed her displeasure over how her director was treated at the Pink city. The 31 year old said, “In a state of shock!deeply saddened and disheartened by yesterday’s events!#Padmavati” her tweet stated. She assured that there is no distortion of facts, “As Padmavati I can assure you that there is absolutely no distortion of history.#Padmavati” And concluded the tweet with, “Our only endeavour is & has always been to share with the world the story of this courageous & powerful woman in the purest form there is.” Soon within seconds even her co-stars Ranveer and Shahid have spoken up. Ranveer took to Twitter and said, “As a team, we are making ‘Padmavati’ keeping in mind the sensitivities and emotions of the people of Rajasthan and the Rajput community.” The actor even justified how Bhansali is one of the most accomplished directors of all time and would never do anything to hurt the sentiments of anyone, “Sanjay Sir is one of the most accomplished & authentic filmmakers we have in India, & he wont ever do anything to hurt anyones feelings.” He then requested the people of Rajasthan to show them support and understand that no instances of distortion of history has occurred, “Whats happened is very unfortunate. We hope the people of Rajasthan will understand & empathise with our intentions & give us their support.” and concluded his statement.

On the other hand, Shahid started his reaction on the SLB incident by saying, “A bunch of 20 something good for nothing’s assault.” However, he soon deleted the tweet and started afresh by saying, “Very very sad. Words do fall short and feel too little to express feelings. Violence is unacceptable. This incident has shocked me.” He went on further and also said, “We need to look deep within as a society, as a country, as a people. Where are we headed.” He clarified the director’s stance and added how there are no sequences that would outrage anyone, “Sanjay bhansali is a film maker who the country should be proud of. You will know when u see #padmavati the dignity he brings to it.” And concluded the tweet by saying how he regretted not being around, “And my only regret is that I wasn’t by his side when this happened.”

Aditi Rao Hydari, who plays Ranveer’s wife in the film, also tweeted, “To curb an artists vision is to throttle a country… your passion inspires us sanjay sir… we love you and stand by you…” Although for quite a while nobody from the cast had tweeted or sent out a statement, they’ve all reacted collectively. It is quite a sad incident that has taken place and shows how the liberty to expression is only prevalent in the books of law.

B-townies also showcased their angst and outrage over the fiasco that occurred on January 27, 2017. From Alia Bhatt to Sidharth Malhotra to Sonam Kapoor to Karan Johar, everyone has supported the filmmaker and demanded justice. Even the Film and Television Producer’s Guild of India have raised the issue, seeking the government of India as well as the State government of Rajasthan to intervene in this matter.
