The recent events that occurred on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati has resulted in a major controversy and furore among industry folks. What happened with the National Award winning director on the sets of Padmavati in Jaipur has sparked a big outrage. However, while Bollywood stands together and raises voice in support of the director, he has also found support in PM Narendra Modi! For all those who aren’t aware of what has happened with the crew of the period drama at Jaipur, let’s recap. Members of Karni Sena stalled the shooting of SLB’s film at the Jaigarh fort by disrupting the set as well as manhandling the director. A video of Bhansali being beaten up by protesters is doing the rounds on the internet. They’ve torn his kurta, vandalised the sets of Padmavati and have beaten up the director. The outrage among the individuals occurred due to a rumour about a dream romance sequence shared between Deepika’s Padmavati character and Ranveer’s Alauddin Khilji. While the industry folks have raised their voice asking for justice, the Prime Minister of the country also stands by the director! Yes, we found this old tweet of Narendra Modi. As you can see in the tweet, clearly Modiji supports an artiste’s viewpoint, that shouldn’t be restricted. His tweet states, “Art can’t have any restrictions or limits: PM Narendra Modi” So even our humble PM feels art shouldn’t subjected to rules and should be let free. In the recent past, as you might have noticed yourself, celebrities from the film industry have become easy targets. Raising a voice against their work, their creative freedom, their opinions, have all received tremendous flak.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali suppoted by Narerndra Modi

Reportedly. the activists of this local organisation are protesting against allegedly distorting the historical facts in Padmavati. Their angst towards the filmmaker is over the buzz that Ranveer Singh recently mentioned about a love making dream sequence between him(Allaudin Khilji) and Deepika(Rani Padmavati) in the film which according to them was never a part of the history. Rani Padmavati never returned the love to Allaudin Khilji and that she eventually committed Jauhar. Reasoned an activist Vikram Singh, from Karni Sena, ”The film is presenting wrong facts about ‘Padmavati’. Our basic protest is about distortion of historical facts which will not be tolerated.” However, soon post the rumours started doing the rounds, the CEO of SLB’s production house even clarified that no such scenes will take place.

Celebs like Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar and more have reacted strongly to this incident. You can check out the video above of how SLB was mobbed by the protesters. Stay tuned to this space for more updates on this.
