With a fantastic opening on day 1(January 25), Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees further manages to pass the day 2 test with flying numbers at the box office. Yes! Although the exact figures are yet to hit the web but if the early estimates are anything to go by then Raees has managed to gross an approx of Rs 26 crore on day 2; which brings its 2 day total to about Rs 46 crore. Considering it was the Republic Day holiday yesterday, the growth in numbers only prove how the audience is assuring they break the January jinx and give a thunderous response to Shah Rukh’s film for it’s also the first time he’s released his film on a Republic Day. In fact, our trade expert Amul Mohan (Editor of Super Cinema) too had earlier mentioned to us stating, “January 25 is a non-holiday. As the following day is a holiday, a lot of people will be coming out. That’s a great situation for it to have.” But of course having said, one cannot forget the fact how Raees has hit the screens with another big release – Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil which is equally getting the cash registers ringing at the box office. Although it opened to just about Rs 10.42 crore on day 1 but word is that it saw a decent upward growth on the second day, again coz of the republic day holiday. Now does that mean Kaabil surpassed Raees at the box office on day 2? We’ll have to wait for the official figures to come in. But for now, both the films seem to be having a profitable share at the box office and with the weekend falling tomorrow, be rest assured to witness a neck-to-neck fight between Raees and Kaabil.

Directed by Rahul Dholakia, Raees raked in mixed reviews from the audience as well as critics. Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s performance has been lauded for its blend of seriousness and humour. The film also stars Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, who marks her Bollywood debut with this film.
