Oscars 2017 was one of the most watched events today. Every year, people across the world wait for this day to see if their favourites will walk way with the golden statuette or not. It was no different this year but 2017’s Academy Awards will go down in history for the Best Picture goof up which left the academy embarrassed, to put it politely. Now, PricewaterhouseCoopers, the official accountant for Academy Awards, has issued a statement apologising for the error. (Also read: Oscars 2017 FULL winners list: Warren Beatty makes a boo-boo! Moonlight wins Best Film)

Variety has reported the statement saying, “We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture. The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation.” As you all are aware Warren Beatty named La La Land as the Best Picture winner when Moonlight was the actual winner. It caused major chaos on stage and Beatty had to explain how such a goof up happened. He said, “I want to tell you what happened. I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, ‘La La Land.’ That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny.”

In fact, later people started noticing the goof up too. Neil Patrick Harris tweeted about it saying

Warren Beatty seems to be opening an envelope that says ‘Actress in a Leading Role’. He must have been handed the wrong one somehow. Yikes. pic.twitter.com/Rma4wp80aX

We wonder what the ‘investigation’ will result in.
