Just when we thought the Baahubali series was the biggest project Indian cinema has seen, comes along Randamoozham aka Mahabharata,  Rs 1000 crore project helmed by ad filmmaker turned director VA Shrikumar Menon. A UAE businessman BR Shetty has chosen the aforementioned exorbitant amount in the project. It’s based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s book that goes by the same title. The mythological tale is narrated from Bheema perspective. Mohanlal has been confirmed to play the pivotal character. He had taken to social media to express his joy on being part of this project – ‘like many of us, I grew up to the tales of the Mahabharata. I consider myself lucky to be named to play Bheema who is the pivotal character in Randamoozham. I am thankful to everyone who believes in me.” The film will release in two parts. It will reportedly go on floors in 2018 and wrap up by 2020. It will release in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. While the project and the central character has been confirmed, the rest of the cast is yet to be finalised. Several names have cropped up for the other characters – Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Nagarjuna, Kamal Haasan, Shobana, Deepika Padukone, Manju Warrier to name a few. While speculations are aplenty, in an interview on a Radio FM, Srikumar revealed his choice for Sri Krishna’s character – Hrithik Roshan or Mahesh Babu. Whoa, now that’s an interesting choice of actors for this significant role. For SS Rajamouli’s Mahabharata version, Aamir Khan was rumoured to be approached for the same role. Srikumar further added that Prithviraj would also be an important part of this film. “MT sir’s script will also have an explanatory note that gives a complete idea on each character. An international casting agency has been hired, and we are yet to finalise the cast, but definitely some of the best teams in Indian cinema and a couple of surprise cast from Hollywood will also be part of the film. I need actors to be committed to this project for almost two years. As of now, Mammootty has not been approached for any character, though there are few roles that might fit him,” stated the director in the same radio interview as translated by IBT.
