A lot was expected from Sonakshi Sinha‘s Noor when it released on April 21, but looks like it has had a miserable first weekend. The movie opened to a disappointing occupancy of just 20-30 per cent on day one, collecting only Rs 1.54 on Friday. On day two and day three, the movie failed to grow as it raked in Rs 1.89 crore and Rs 2.09 crore respectively. This means that over the first weekend, Noor has managed to collect only Rs 5.52 crore. Talking about the dull performance and the detailed weekend collection, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Noor has a dull weekend. Biz saw growth, but not substantial enough… Fri 1.54 cr, Sat 1.89 cr, Sun 2.09 cr. Total: Rs 5.52 cr. India biz.”

Released in 1450 screens, our trade expert – Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) expected Noor to earn about Rs 12 crore in three days. However, the movie did not live up to these expectations. This has to be because of the poor content. While Sonakshi’s act is really endearing, the story as such is not that great. As our film critic – Sreeju Sudhakaran mentioned in his review, “Noor has its flaws, and it certainly isn’t this year’s Queen, if you really want to get into comparison mode. But Noor still manages to endear to you with its light-hearted, fresh treatment and Sonakshi Sinha’s winning performance, if you don’t attach too many expectations.” (ALSO READ – Noor movie review: Sonakshi Sinha strikes back with an endearing act in this feel-good entertainer)

The mixed reviews and poor word of mouth publicity meant Noor did not see any growth over the weekend. In fact, if you compare the first weekend collection of Noor (Rs 5.52 crore) to other female oriented films of the year, you will realise that Sonakshi Sinha’s movie is nowhere near them. Taapsee Pannu’s Naam Shabana (Rs 18.76 crore), Kangana Ranaut’s Rangoon (Rs 14.50 crore) and Vidya Balan’s Begum Jaan (Rs 11.48 crore) are a mile ahead of Noor. With such a response over the first three days, we don’t expect Noor to sustain. It will wrap up this Friday, with a maximum lifetime collection of Rs 10 crore. Post Friday, Prabhas and Rana Daggubati’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion will reign supreme at the box office.
