Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam‘s Kaabil hit the screens on January 25 and straight away it drew a large number of people into the theatres. And even though it got just 2200 screens (approximately), Kaabil has managed to earn a decent Rs 10.43 crore on day 1 at the domestic box office. In fact, Kaabil has performed very well considering the fact that it released on a non-holiday day, got just 40 per cent of the total number of screens and had to face the opposition of a film like Raees. The movie also got a smaller share in the single screen space too.
But there is nothing to worry as Kaabil has received a strong word of mouth publicity coz of its entertaining and thrilling content. People have been raving about the movie at the theatres and on social media. In fact, many have even termed it as one of the Hrithik’s career best performances. And with today being a holiday – Republic Day (January 26), we expect the film to see a huge growth. We may see a slight dip on Friday considering that it is a working day, but it will keep growing over Saturday and Sunday and end the Republic Day weekend on a high. A leading trade analyst rightly added, “Content is King and Kaabil will hold its own on pure merit.” Producer Rakesh Roshan, who was hurt after being let down by the theatre share, is now confident that in the coming days, things will even out because Kaabil has proven that it is indeed kaabil enough. Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil clashed with Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan‘s Raees. Both the movies were neck and neck going in to the release weekend, but Raees got a better opening. And we expect Shah Rukh’s film to earn Rs 15-20 crore on day 1. But with a larger screen space (2700 screens), this was bound to happen. However, these are just the initial days and the word of mouth publicity will actually determine how far which film will now and ultimately, the real winner at the box office.
