Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan‘s Dear Zindagi has started off tremendously at the box office. But it is not just the domestic market, but also the overseas market that has been performing well. In fact, Dear Zindagi has performed so well that it has nearly touched the Rs 75 crore mark worldwide. Yeah, the film has been loved by the masses and we can see it through the first weekend collections. While Alia and Shah Rukh’s movie released on Friday in India, it hit theatres in America on Wednesday itself (to cash in on the Thanksgiving weekend). It was also released in UAE-GEC last Thursday.
Looking at the collections, Dear Zindagi has earned Rs 32.50 crore nett (which is equivalent to Rs 46.41 crore gross) in 3 days at the domestic box office. On the other hand, the movie earned Rs 27.45 crore in 4 days at the overseas market. If you add both, Dear Zindagi has raked in Rs 73.86 crore gross at the worldwide market at the end of the first weekend. Looking at the current trends, it will easily cross the Rs 75 crore today and might even touch the Rs 80 crore mark. The audience across the world has liked the movie and has been raving about it since it released. The surprising part was that Dear Zindagi was released in just 1200 screens at the domestic market and 600 screens in the overseas market. The makers planned such a niche release keeping in mind the genre of the film and looks like it was a really good decision. The occupancies have been high and the distribution costs were minimised. Also, the overseas market has earned as much as the domestic market with just half the number of screens. That is a really amazing achievement, na?
While Dear Zindagi is performing very well, we expected this from the start. Our trade expert, Amul Vikas Mohan (Editor of Super Cinema) had revealed to us earlier, “Ideally, it should open anywhere around Rs 11 crore. If the opening day is at Rs 11 or 12 crore and continues to carry good buzz, it should do around Rs 35 crore over the weekend.” ALSO READ – Dear Zindagi movie review: Alia Bhatt gives her best performance while Shah Rukh Khan blows you away with his charm
And even though the audience found it long and boring in some parts, a good word of mouth publicity is flowing for the movie. Looking at this positive trends, we expect the movie to continue its glorious run at the box office. What do you guys have to say about Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt’s Dear Zindagi?
