Since its first teaser, Cars 3 has made it clear that they are taking a darker route this time. The voiceover in the trailer declares, “You will never be the racer you once were, you can’t turn back the clock kid, but you can wind it up again.” It’s all about second chances.

The film’s plot looks similar to 2006’s much loved Rocky Balboa, where Rocky Balboa – the older washed up boxer – goes in for his last fight against a much tougher, faster and younger boxer. And just like that one, it has a new high tech car, who is the big bad villain, Jackson Storm against whom our beloved Lightning McQueen will be up. It’s all about the underdog. And who doesn’t love an underdog story. It’s all about staying relevant with the changing times. We’ll get to see the story unfold in June 2017.

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage! Also read: Cars 3 extended teaser: The new promo will remind you of Rocky Balboa
